Editorial Bridesmaids Styled Shoot
Shooting weddings is simply amazing! I get to spend the day doing something I love, surrounded by a bunch of people who are all dressed up and super happy. Really, what more could you ask for in a career? But as much as I love photographing weddings, it’s fun to team up with other entrepreneurs and let your imagination get a little crazy!
So often when I do a styled shoot it’s a bride and groom in a wedding dress and a suit or tux and I wanted to do something just a bit different. For a long time I wanted to get a little wild and try something super editorial but I wasn’t coming up with any ideas to make that happen. I couldn’t tell you the exact moment when it hit me but I remember contacting Taylor, from Ever After Bridal in Endicott, NY, and asking to meet with her and chat about an idea I had for a styled shoot focusing on bridesmaids dresses.
Shortly after getting a Pinterest board together I headed to her office and chatted with her about my idea. The moment she saw some of my inspiration photos she was on board! We picked a date and got to work. We brought in two makeup artists, two hair stylist, a florist, and 5 models to make it happen. All of whom seemed super excited to be a part of something different!
My goal was to focus on bridesmaids dresses for all different body types but rather than the traditional bridal hair and makeup I wanted to have a little fun with it. We chose to add in some dramatic colorful makeup and runway hair styles but also wanted to keep it simple enough to keep your focus on the beauty of each dress.
As hair and makeup was being completed and each model got into their dresses I couldn’t have been more excited or so I thought. Then we headed off to downtown Binghamton to add in some urban flair. After taking some images and moving to different locations I kept glancing down at the back of my camera and saw enchanting images which were exactly what I had envisioned!
This shoot couldn’t have been possible without the talent and creativity of all the women who participated. I gave each of them an idea of what I wanted and told them to run with it and have fun!
