Windridge Estate Engagement Session – Josephine & Todd

Josephine and I had the treat of chatting with each other over the phone very shortly after Todd proposed to her! She was so excited to get married to this man that she jumped right into wedding planning! They soon after locked down a beautiful venue in Cazenovia called the Windridge Estate RedBarn 20. Last year, I photographed a wedding here and absolutely love this venue! When Josephine told me she booked her wedding there I was thrilled! Not too long after our phone call, her and Todd locked me in as her wedding photographer and then it was time to plan their engagement session! The two of them love this venue so much that they decided they want to do their engagement pictures at the exact same place. Which I think is super special!

I will never forget my initial phone consultation with Josephine. I asked her how her and Todd met, one of my favorite questions to ask! She told me that she saw Todd from a distance. Looked at him, turned to her friend and said “I’m going to marry that man one day. That was it! Here we are five years later and the two of them are getting married! If that isn’t the definition of love at first sight, I don’t know what is! I truly didn’t know if that was a thing or not but Josephine proved me wrong!

Upon arriving at the estate, Josephine stepped out of the car in a beautiful flowy white dress and Todd was looking extra dapper! They brought their save the date with them so I could photograph that as well as a bottle of champagne, a custom denim jacket and a cowboy hat! I was actually super nervous about their session purely because of the weather. Earlier in the week it looked like there was a 40% chance of thunderstorms and it was going to be hot and humid. YUCK! We managed to dodge the thunderstorm but the heat and humidity definitely stuck around. We took a few breaks to cool off in the car because it was that hot out I’m pretty sure the temperature gage read 88° at the start of their shoot. Yikes! Josephine came prepared with a portable fan to use as we were walking to different locations. Every single couple needs to bring a mini fan for themselves because this was genius! Particularly on those hot Summer days.

Regardless of the hot and sticky weather, this couple did so well throughout their session. Plus, the venue was unbelievably beautiful! I was almost overwhelmed because every single time I looked somewhere else it was a new spot to for photos. The sweet sun was on our side and eventually sat over the mountains. Which created the dreamiest light for their engagement pictures!

We stuck to the shade as much as possible! But definitely tiptoed around in some of the sun spots to get that dreamy golden hour light! These two are so sweet and I’m super excited to photograph their wedding next August. A huge shout out to the staff at Windridge Estate for keeping their property in impeccable condition and letting us photograph their space!
